Someone’s gotta make & fix the bikes, right?
Riding bikes isn’t all braun. There’s also a lot of brains and engineering, time, and care that goes into designing, maintaining, and fixing bikes. Make use of the bike shop and RPI’s student run maker space, “The Forge,” and dream up your own solutions to minor nuisances or complex projects.
Open Bike Shop
We have dedicated bike shop hours every Thursday 7-9pm in the Fall semester and by request in the Spring Semester at the ’87 gym bike room.
Come down and see us if you need any help fixing or maintaining your bike! We know that some of you beat up your commuter or race bikes, and we have the tools and know-how from brake cables to brake fluid and 3-bys to 12 speeds. Don’t know what’s wrong? Bring it down anyway, and well figure it out with a youtube video or two.
Bring it anyways, and we’ll get you back pedaling in no time. Not sure if we have some specific tool? We have the tools and the know how to true wheels, replace tubes, de-rust chains, de-rust metal components, and pump up tires. More niche? Just send an email to us or reach out in the bike-tech-help channel in the discord. We also have consumables like WD-40, chain lube, and cables for members to use.
From our racers to our commuters, we make sure the shop is stocked with tools and random pieces that you may need to take care of the most high-end race bike, to the beaten up 90’s campus cruisers.
Engineers at our Core
As students at an engineering school, a big part of our club team is the science of bicycles. Many of our teammates are involved with creating and innovating bicycles and bicycle components using the many different manufacturing facilities available at Rensselaer.
We pride ourselves in fostering an environment where team members consistently put their aspiring engineering minds to use, and facilitating the ever-important practice of applying what is learned in the classroom, to real life.
